Quotable Creation Care: Rainer Maria Rilke Greets the New Season

A maple tree in autumn.

Lord: it is time. The summer was immense.
Lay your shadow on the sundials
and let loose the wind in the fields.

Thank you for the beautiful poem by Rilke. On this day, overcast, the leaves are bent with the first rain we’ve had in weeks. The storm drains have been called into action. The air is cool –a miracle when it was in the 90’s just last week. It’s a good day to be inside and read poetry.
