Far from your average conference, the upcoming A Rocha Summer 2010 Creation Care Institute will get your feet wet and your hands dirty–literally!
A Rocha is an international Christian conservation organization working in 19 countries on five continents, but in the U.S. its priority is mobilizing communities–like yours–to steward creation through educational and hands-on conservation and restoration projects. Flourish is privileged to be a sponsor of the upcoming A Rocha Summer 2010 Creation Care Institute in Santa Barbara, California, June 6-12, where participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to design, launch, and maintain conservation projects in their own communities.
Examples of the sorts of U.S. conservation projects A Rocha is already involved in include maintenance of the Boise River watershed in Boise, Idaho by a local coalition of churches, individuals, and community institutions; a six-acre community garden, permaculture, and creation care project in Deerfield Beach, Florida; and the restoration and protection of the headwaters of a major river in Texas hill country.
If you can envision similar projects taking place in your community, check out the Creation Care Institute. Speakers will include Dr. Chris Wright, noted author, Director of the Langham Partnership International, and Chair of the Lausanne Committee‘s Theological Education Committee; Ben Lowe, author of Green Revolution: Coming Together to Care for Creation; and Rev. Ed Brown, author of Our Father’s World and Director of Care of Creation. Activities will get you outside for hands-on learning and inspire you with worship and fun.
