Energy StarThe First Baptist Church of Dallas will save $450,000 in utility costs this year due to its new approach to energy use. The First Baptist Church of Springdale and its Shiloh Christian School carefully monitored their energy usage and trained their community in energy-saving practices. Idlewild Baptist Church designed its facility to incorporate energy- and cost-saving appliances and innovations. Swarthmore Presbyterian Church uses the money saved from its energy systems upgrades to improve its outreach to the local community.

These congregations are the winners of the 2009 ENERGY STAR Congregations Awards. Although the awards are open to congregations of any faith tradition, this year these four churches were rewarded for their leadership in pollution reduction, energy conservation, and financial savings from environmental initiatives. Visit the ENERGY STAR website to learn more about the winning congregations and to get inspired to help your own church community strengthen its commitment to creation stewardship.

Congratulations to this year’s winners!
