		<description>So, I have a burning question. We have a 28 year old Maytag washer and dryer. In the 28 years we&#039;ve owned them, we have replaced the light bulb in the dryer once and the lint trap once. That&#039;s it.

We typically try to wash only full loads.

Does it make better environmental stewardship sense to keep them or replace them with new Energy Star units? Seems like keeping these out of the landfill, durability issues, etc make me think keeping them is better. Does anyone have a credible comparison?

We are getting ready to build a new home (LEED Platinum) and LEED says get new ones. I&#039;m not so sure...</description>

		<description>One thing to note is the the newer cars should be much safer.  Therefore health costs in accidents and lower insurance rates should result from this program as well.</description>
